1. Patrakarita Hate Kitab (Handbook on Journalism):
First published
in 1995, this vernacular ‘handbook on journalism’ is
useful for anyone interested to learn about the journalism profession
and the basic arts of journalism. Edited by Dhrubahari Adhikari,
the work comprises articles from some of the leading media figures
of Nepal.
2. Bishwa Suchana Thatha Sanchar Pranalika Naya Ayamharu:
Published
in 2054 (1997), this book deals with the ‘new dimensions on
information and communication systems in the world. The book, edited
by Ramkrishna Regmi, contains nearly a dozen of the translated versions
of articles by various Nepali and foreign media experts. It also
contains important decisions and declarations on the welfare of
media sector.
3. Prasharan Patrakarita Hate Kitab (Handbook on Broadcast Journalism):
Published in 1997, this work deals with various facets of electronic
media. It can help any Nepali-speaking reader interested in Radio
or TV journalism as a resource material in developing the necessary
skills. The book is edited by Durganath Sharma.
4. National Mass Media Directory (1998):
This book showcases the
profiles of almost all media organisations in Nepal, along with
their addresses and names of chief executives.
5. Khoj (Search):
This is a collection of articles on investigative
journalism, brought out in collaboration with Centre for Investigative
Journalism. Published in 1999, the book is edited by Rajendra Dahal.
6. Chhapama Mahila (Women in Press):
This 1999 publication is a
collection of articles on women’s issues brought out jointly
with the Sancharika Samuha, a women’s group in media. Edited
jointly by Pratyoush Onta, Shobha Gautam and Amrita Baskota, the
work serves as a reference material on how women have contributed
to promote their lot through the media in Nepal.
7. Radio Boliko Bhasha Lekhta... (Writing Script for Radio...):
Brought out in 1999 in collaboration with Nepal Forum of Environmental
Journalists, this work, too, is designed to help Nepali-speaking
readers in writing script for radio programmes. Ajay Bhadra Khanal
and Badri Paudyal have co-authored the book.
8. Media Nepal (2000):
Compiled out of the contribution of five
senior journalists, namely, P Kharel, Dhrubahari Adhikari, Somnath
Ghimire, Binod Bhattarai and Shyam Bahadur KC, this book gives an
overview of the Nepalese mass media. P Kharel is the editor of the
book.
9. Media Practices in Nepal:
This is another 2001 publication brought
out in an attempt to keep researchers and scholars in media—both
at home and abroad— abreast with the contemporary media situations
in Nepal. Edited by P Kharel, this English-language work contains
analytical features by five writers, namely, Jan Sharma, Manaranjan
Josse, Lal Deosa Rai, Dr Pius Raj Mishra and P Kharel.
10. Nepali Pressma Cartoon:
Authored by Kundan Aryal, this 2001
publication is an attempt to make a comparative study of the cartoons
in Nepali press over the decades.
11. Nepali Patrakaritama Bhasha:
This is a small book published
in the year 2001. Authored by Kishor Nepal, the book tries to evaluate
the use of language in the contemporary Nepalese media, especially
newspapers.
12. Sampadan Sahayogi:
Edited by Chiranjibi Khanal and published
in the year 2001, this vernacular work is a practical guidebook
to the art of editing newspaper stories and audio-visual programmes.
It contains inputs from senior TV journalist Durganath Sharma, newspaper
editor Somnath Ghimire and media professional Krishna Murari Timilsina.
13. Sight, Sound and Pulse:
Edited by P Kharel, this book was published
in 2002 with the view to coping with the shortage of textbooks in
Journalism in Nepal. Featuring inputs from various media persons
long engaged in print media, radio, TV as well as motion picture
sectors, the work is a comparative study of the respective media
sectors over the decades.
14. Sthaniya Radio, Sambhabana ra Upayogita:
Brought out in 2002
with collaboration with Martin Chautari, this book tries to delve
into various aspects of community radios—their evolution,
utility, scope and problems in Nepal. Pratyoush Onta and Raghu Mainali
are the co-editors of the book.
15. Patrakaritama Mahila Prashna:
Another publication of the year
2002, this book compiles articles by Anju Chhetri, Manju Thapa and
Saroj Panta, and dwells on issues of gender sensitiveness and the
question of gender equality in the Nepalese media.
16. Manav Adhikar ra Press:
Authored jointly by Sushil Pyakurel
and Kundan Aryal, this is another 2002 product of NPI. The book
highlights the role of mass media in the protection and promotion
of human rights in a society. It also dwells on the inter-relationship
between the press and the human rights movement in the present-day
world.
17. Aamsanchar ra Kanun:
This is another publication of the year
2002. Authored by Kashiraj Dahal, the book is an attempt to provide
the readers with an updated knowledge on media laws and ethics in
Nepal. The work not only takes note of media laws and regulations
but discusses the roles, scope and limitations of mass media vis-a-vis
the Constitution and the laws of the land.
18. Media in Society:
Published in December 2002, this book contains
analytical articles on society and its relation to media by four
authors, namely P Kharel, Dev Raj Dahal, Dr Sushil Raj Pandey and
Dr Krishna B Bhattachan. P Kharel is the editor of the book.
